Oct 17, 05 04:22 pm — Ok, those of you who kinda know me may know Jethro Tull is me favorite band in the world ever.

An AIM conversation with Kalika pretty much sums it up:

BeggarsFarm7 (3:06:14 PM): i have no voice

jellyfiend00 (3:06:27 PM): freshers flu hit you too?

BeggarsFarm7 (3:06:39 PM): no...Jethro Tull hit me

jellyfiend00 (3:06:46 PM): mine is slowly coming back :z
jellyfiend00 (3:06:48 PM): oooh!
jellyfiend00 (3:06:50 PM): gig :D
jellyfiend00 (3:06:52 PM): how was it?
jellyfiend00 (3:06:59 PM): lots of screaming

BeggarsFarm7 (3:07:00 PM): it was orgasmic
BeggarsFarm7 (3:07:13 PM): they're my favorite band and i never thought i'd get to see them
BeggarsFarm7 (3:07:40 PM): i actually cried during the concert :-P

jellyfiend00 (3:07:49 PM): how come you got to see?
jellyfiend00 (3:08:01 PM): aww, you go with joe?

BeggarsFarm7 (3:08:02 PM): they came near my town for the first time in years
BeggarsFarm7 (3:09:43 PM): it was worth the voice loss...what a way to go

jellyfiend00 (3:18:23 PM): you got seating?

BeggarsFarm7 (3:18:33 PM): yeah

jellyfiend00 (3:18:40 PM): didn't want to get mushed up in the mosh

BeggarsFarm7 (3:18:49 PM): it was in an open air ampitheathre under a full moon
BeggarsFarm7 (3:19:22 PM): there was seating right up to the stage...not much moshing until they threw 2 giant balloons into the crowd at the end lol

jellyfiend00 (3:19:40 PM): what age were the audience?

BeggarsFarm7 (3:20:02 PM): i saw people every age from like 10 to about 60

jellyfiend00 (3:21:48 PM): it sounds like it had a wicked atmos.

BeggarsFarm7 (3:22:22 PM): it was really pretty spiffy
BeggarsFarm7 (3:22:58 PM): the only way it could have been better would have been if i'd gotten front row seats and had my pic taken by ian when he took pics of people down by the stage

jellyfiend00 (3:25:38 PM): did you tell everyone at uni you saw them?
jellyfiend00 (3:25:45 PM): take any pics of the stage?

BeggarsFarm7 (3:27:10 PM): yeah i wore the shirt i got today and whenever anyone asked what happened to my voice i explained :-P all of my friends know i'm a fanatic ....no i didnt remember a camera

jellyfiend00 (3:29:22 PM): what colour is it?

BeggarsFarm7 (3:29:40 PM): dark blue with a cool little design on the front
BeggarsFarm7 (3:30:13 PM): joe got a black one with a red graphic sillouette of ian anderson standing on one foot playing flute

They played the whole album of Aqualung and lots of other acoustic and heavier songs. It was so freaking magnificent I cried and I belted out the songs. I realize that things aren't like they were in the 70s...how could they be? That was years ago. But I couldn't have asked for more out of this concert besides I wished the damn people down front had bopped the balloons back so I could have tapped one. I loved and and want to see them again and again until they quit touring. I'd longed for over 5 years to see them and I wasn't disappointed.

The pic below is of my dad, myself, and Joe at the concert right before it started. It was taken by a random Delta worker...go figure...

Aqualung came out when I was about the age that you and JoeCool are now. It is kinda weird that you guys are such big fans. At the time, I thought they were the greatest, but haven't given them much thought since. I still like the music, but I guess I don't understand the passion for something I have taken for granted most of my life. Bottom line: I'm glad you guys had such a good time, and that you have such good taste in music.

/wonders if they know about Led Zepplin, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, BTO, The Who, The Guess Who, ....

BTO, Bachman Turner Overdrive, or as we called them as the band started to grow old and stale, Bad Tunes Overplayed.

Good to hear you had such a good time. Bands rarely live up to such high expectations, but it sounds like JT did.

I'm glad you enjoyed the concert, I've been a fan for years as well. I thought Thick as a Brick was their best work.

I didn't know you were so pretty, your smile would light up a football stadium!

Yes, great smile. What was Dad reaching for? Or was he just holding the pipe down?

If you ever get the chance to see them at a decent indoor venue, do so. They almost always have a decent sound man, and he gets a lot more out of an enclosed space provided it isn't something horrible like a metal shack.

I've seen them three times, and I have to say the smaller the venue the better the show. But something's better than nothing, and ian and his voice aren't getting any younger.

actually his voice sounded really good...a bit different no doubt but not bad at all. Yeah I'd love to see them again, but the atmosphere with the chilly air, stars, full moon, and Jethro Tull could have only been better if one could have eliminated the rank smell of stale beer and cigarettes.

That is so cool.
I happen to be going to my fantasy concert next week. In my wildest dreams I didn't think these three getting back together would ever happen.
I have been waiting my whole life for this and I am gonna bring a whole bunch of kleenex!

I was willing to fly to the UK to see them last Spring (before I knew they were going to perform here) but the tickets were almost three times more than I would have paid for airfare and hotel.
After the concert Andy was kind enough to send me the concert reviews and I read them while I ate my heart out.
Yes, Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce, back together again. Who would have thunk it?
The Kleenex is for me. I got teary eyed just seeing Clapton do a solo in concert, I figure the tears are really gonna flow for this one.

So glad to hear you had a good time! I will be seeing Tull next month here in Denver for....I think my 18th time if I count it all correctly. I am taking my partner in business, who has never seen them live, but is a prog rock fan. I tell him he will be amazed at the musicianship he will enjoy, especially for some wheezy old geezers! Ians' voice is not what it once was, but he still has the talent that most could only hope for. Check out the vid with him and Tinkara on the Tull website, it's simply amazing....

Martin has some good chops still, and Andy, Doane, and Jon make for a pretty tight set. I hope you get to see them again!

My Bologna has a first name. But, it had the misfortune of eating paint chips as a child. Therefore, he prefers to be called Mort......
