Oct 24, 03 12:17 pm — my boyfriend is making me be politically active this weekend. so we're going to DC tomorrow to march on the mall and around the white house to protest the iraq occupation and the bush administration in general. i've never been to a protest before, and i'm pretty much looking forward to it. does anyone have any good stories about going to something similar?

If you wanna start being politcally active it's much better to start at a local community level. Going to DC is like trying to attend one big stoner party. Once its all over you'll feel like you've done a whole life's work of politcal activism! ::grin::

or you'll prolly forget it all in the green haze.

it's really just to show support for the cause, and increase the number of people as much as possible. i know it's not actually going to directly effect change.

why don't you jsut send your bf down there with 2 or 3 blow up dolls. that way, it will look like there are more people, and you can just enjoy your weekend at home alone..

I went to a few in Germany a while back, but nothing in DC.

I do have some advice. If you see someone doing something illegal or stupid. Leave. Nothing will ruin your day faster than being thrown into the pokey for standing next to the guy with the rock. The DC police are prety good until someone gets out of line... then they tend to act like stormtroopers.

I applaud you, I marched on the Capitol here in austin, at the begining of the iraqi occupation. I felt that we should have worked with the UN to get more support before going in like Bush Sr. did. But, we didn't and look where we are begging for help from those same UN member countries...
