Apr 28, 03 03:50 am — We now have a new member of the family. Her name is Tamari, and we adopted her from a local Rescue:

http://http://www.hobocare.com

We had been visiting a lot of the local shelters, seeing many, many great dogs, but our first concern was our Shiba Inu/Chow mix (also from a shelter) Sakura, and trying to find a good companion for her. Sakura is such a sweetie, and we didn't want to get an overly agressive dog that would bully her. It just so happens we were visiting my wife's niece at the Vet clinic she works at, and there were two Boxer/mix pooches there. One had a broken toe, and the one we eventually adopted. She had been severely neglected, nothing but skin and bones. She was left outside all the time, rarley fed, and had a cyst on her uterus. She had been bleeding for an entire MONTH (may the previous owners go directly to HELL, thank you), before they saw fit to get her to a vet. The f**king asshats gave her up, and she was in a "kill" shelter, in line to be snuffed very soon, before the good people at the Rescue saved her. She is so loving, smart, and mellow, it amazes me how dogs can be so forgiving. she is 7 months old, and Sakura is being an absolute love, sharing all her toys and food with her.

I could have easily snapped up about 20 dogs by now, but this one just kind of had that special "spark", and we all fell in love. If I had a bigger house, I would save even more of these great creatures, and give them the life they deserve. If you have never gone to a shelter, it is a very grueling experience. However, being able to give at least one or two of these special souls a second chance brings so much reward and love, I can't understand why everyone doesn't do it....

Here is a pic, I'll tyr to upload a better one, and one of Sakura soon....

Shiba Inu's are the most beautiful creatures! Mixed with a Chow - I cannot wait to see this. And you picked out one heck of a cutie.

Sounds like one big happy family. Congratulations!

She is sleeping right next to me now, and SNORING!

She is so funny, she will look at you with those big, buggy eyes, and you just have to laugh....and go give her a big hug.

My Bologna has a first name. But, it had the misfortune of eating paint chips as a child. Therefore, he prefers to be called Mort......

You'll have to upload it to a server somewhere to host it ... Your ISP should give you like 5mb of free space, which is more than ample amount of room for LOTS of avatars ::grin::

Do NOT use geocities, tripod, lycos, etc - They don't allow linking of images like that.

I dunno. Do they give you free webspace to use?

Can't hurt to try. There's a thread in the forums in the 'tech help' section for "free web hosting", there could be a good link in there for free web space.

I saw a lot of German Shepard/mixes at the shelters. They are beautiful, smart, and very loyal dogs. Treat any dog with love, and guidance, and give them a good home, and they will be one of your best friends for life....

Your new addition to the family is absolutely adorable! Although adorable, I am not one for dogs. Pisses hubby off, as he has been dying for a dog!

Reply to eh?:

My ex used to be adamant against dogs (she was a cat person) she now owns two dogs. See, there is hope for you yet!

Just kidding, if you don't dogs, you can also adopt cats, rabbits, and I even saw a ferret at one of the shelters! The wife said a big "hell no" to that.....

Spudlump I'm so glad you decided to do the journal, hopefully this will encourage someone, even the lurkers, to go adopt a needy pet. Here is a link and you can do a search for your area, make sure to click pictures option so you can see the animal in your results.

P.S. She is a beautiful dog.

Cool, thanks for the link to Petfinders. I used it a bunch, saw way too many dogs that were just too cute! All the shelters I visited had WAY too many pets in them. Since I am currently jobless, I might volunteer a few days.

I can't wait to get my cast off , so that I can get back to volunteering. I usually volunteer at 2 kill shelters and 1 no kill shelter. It's only a few hours a week, but so rewarding. Good luck with your dog, she seems really sweet.
